Seth, buying ramps or whatever is fine and handy to have around but you don't need to raise your car one inch to change the oil. Trust me, you would be going to a lot trouble and wasted time to jack the car up and put it on stands. Ramps are fast and easy but stands are a lot more trouble especially using the car's jack.

Like I said, you don't need to raise the car even an inch to change the oil. All you need is a long ratchet extention and a breaker bar or some other longish bar or pipe to use as leverage to break the drain plug lose and then maybe again to help re-tighten it.

: After about a hundred trips to the Aid Auto store looking for some ramps, and adapters, to raise up my M3, I'm getting tired of ordering them and having them sold before I get there. Anyway, how difficult is it to jack up the car with a floor jack, or BMW car jack, and lower it onto jack stands. I'm thinking about just buying the damn stands and a floor jack instead of wasting my time waiting for these ramps. Two questions. 1) Is it difficult? 2) Will the car fall on me? The ramps seem fairly idiot proof, so that's my main appeal to them. Any info is greatly appreciated by myself and my car. (It's time for an oil change.)
