In Reply to: Can I upgrade sound system and keep the deck? posted by Nadeem Aboobaker on June 25, 2000 at 03:22:54:

You can upgrade your sound system very easily. I have the premium HK system and was very happy with its sound quality and features, I simply wanted to enhance the sound with a little more solid bass(thump not boom). I simply added a speaker box in the trunk with two Pioneer Diamond Plate 10" woofers which handle 140W each. To power these I installed a Blaupunkt 300W AMP. The only difference you can tell is that the Bass is a lot cleaner and stronger. It doesn't rattle the car at all because of the heavy duty sound absorbing materials in the trunk.

This setup is not meant for competition type sound, simply an enhancement of the current quality setup. If you really want to maximize your sound capabilities you would upgrade the factory speakers as well with the proper wattage amps depending on the speakers you buy. You would also want to get crossovers which would separate the sound frequencies properly for each speaker. You would still be able to use the factory head unit with all of these additions.

Good Luck!

: Hello all -

: I have been thinking about upgrading the sound system on my 95 M3. My goal is to get cleaner sounding bass, but not necessarily a lot of "bump." I like the way the factory deck looks, so I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the amp/sepakers and add a 10" sub but also keep the factory deck? If it is possible, how does it sound?

: Thanks,
: Nadeem
