Good compound to take out scratches with? (archive)

My '95 M3 and '95 J30 have surfaces scratches that I have been trying to get rid of. I bought a bottle of the 3M Perfect-It II Rubbing Compound (Fine Cut) and it seems to take out the smaller scratches. According to the bottle, it'll remove 1200 grade scratches. Does anyone know of another compound I could try to take out deeper scratches (that's also safe)?

Thanks,

Dat
'95 M3a
