: : My '95 M3 and '95 J30 have surfaces scratches that I have been trying to get rid of. I bought a bottle of the 3M Perfect-It II Rubbing Compound (Fine Cut) and it seems to take out the smaller scratches. According to the bottle, it'll remove 1200 grade scratches. Does anyone know of another compound I could try to take out deeper scratches (that's also safe)?

: Believe it or not, I've only found one product which will take out clear coat level scratches, without either creating worse scratches, or removing the paint alltogether. That product is 3M's Cleaner Wax for Moderate Oxidation. That's the key....The lighter stuff is good, but wont get the deeper scratches...And, application is important...You want to get a hard rubber sanding block, and wrap a 100% cotton terry towel around it. Then, putting your body weight into it, go back and forth, with good pressure, several times slowly, as if you were sanding. The day I discovered this was a very happy day...Ive tried all the others, to Imperial Hand glaze, to Perfect it and finesse it by 3M, to all the Meguiars products, etc, etc. This has proved to be the only one to accomplish what you are asking for. Once you try it, you'll be thanking me!
