: Hello everyone, I own a 1995 M3 and ran into the strangest experience this past weekend. Without getting into too many details right off the bat, I want to get the true purpose of this message. I was getting my car washed this weekend when all of a sudden the car shut off while it was getting washed and would not restart thereafter. THe owner claimed that BMW's of this year both 3 and M3 have a latent defect which allows water to get into the computer housing and shut down the computer. Again for the sake of space, After many failed attempts to get my car restarted, I was forced to tow the car back to my home. In the course I found out from the tow company that several BMW had recently been towed from this and several other car wash locations for the said problem. Further, when I spoke to a service manager he immediatly knew of the said problem and was quick to respond that the computer was probably fried and the expected cost was ~$1300. Well the manager of the car wash insisted that if I unplugged the computer for a period of 1/2 hour the car would restart. I left the car unplugged for about 24 hours, and today when I went to start the car, it started. However, it now cycles between 1000 and 2500 rpms and will not stop. HELP, I am fairly against the idea of paying $1300 to replace the computer however, I am enlightened by the fact car did start. Is there a chance that this cyclical problem can be reset or am I due for a new computer????? Is there a way to reprogram the computer or reset the computer??? OR do anything, I am desperate... :( Please help if you can!!!
