Picked up my 99 Estoril coupe with 14.9K miles about 3 weeks ago from East Bay BMW in Pleasanton for 3K less than the asking price --- still kinda high but not high enough to make me venture out of state for my second M3.

It's really nothing more than the old supply and demand principle. These cars are highly coveted and there are those times when another cliche also applies: you gotta pay if you wanna play.

It is entirely a personal decision to determine whether getting the car quickly and expeditiously is worth the extra cost. Or if taking your time and shopping around for the best price is the way to go. In my case, getting a clean, strong running M3 which was the best one available in the Bay Area was definitely worth it.
