Actually the taller tire would gear the car up, decreasing acceleration, but at the same road speed the engine speed would be lower. So, you may have something there. However, if going to an 18in wheel wouldn't you get a 235/35-18 to keep diameter close to stock. My car has 235/40-17, so with more wheel diam. you need less sidewall.
