I ran into a guy with a '97 M3 that had the stock exhaust system on his car but it sounded so nice...much better than a stock system. After looking at his stock muffler I asked him why it was louder and sounded so nice.

He told me he drilled about a 3/4" hole at the back of the internal muffler pipe; the one that zig-zags! He used a drill bit extention to hold the drill bit and drilled from the left (or driver's side) tip.

He said he marked the drill bit extention's shaft with some colored tape so he would know how deep into the muffler he was drilling. Said it took about ten minutes to do and it's been like that for a couple years now.

He also said this hole lined up directly with the incoming exhaust pipe (from the CAT).

I'll have to admit, it sounded really, really nice...

Has anyone heard of anyone doing this? It kinda suprises me we haven't.
