Check to see if you might be missing a Jack Point (Lifting Pad) Support. If so, air coming in through the support's mounting hole can cause a wind noise in an area far from the opening that is causing the noise. In the E36 body, this noise seems to be coming from the top of the windshield or A-pillar area!

If you need to replace one (or more) of them, the BMW part number is: #51 71 1 960 752. The MSRP is about $9.00 each.

I have a 98 M3 2 door and recently I notice light whistling wind noise ones I hit 75+ mph coming from the wind shield area. Any ideas why and what causes this? I am the original owner and the car has never been in any accidents.
Thanks in advance!
