I've had the MXX3's and AVS Sports on my M3, we've had the Dunlops and S-O2's on my wife's M Roadster.

Accounting for the difference in chassis (obviously some!) I'd generally agree with you that the S-O2s are the most mushy out of all of these. They are definitely the quietest and most comfy as well. Good for the roadster since you'd get more noise in the cabin. Her S-02s are getting toward the end of their lifespan, and as they are now, especially when hot they break away pretty fast. (This happened at an autocross with pretty drastic results!) Fun for spinning, but not the best race times.

Anyhow...personally I think the AVS Sports are the best for the M3, not as quiet as the S-02s, but way better in the hot & dry. Price is good too.

Sorry I can't be more help, but I'd say this is pretty standard S-02 behavior.
