How long did it take to recover the vehicle after the theft? If more than 30 days = total loss claim.

my friend got his car stolen and about a week ago the cops found it but the thieves apparently didn't need any of the body panels or the engine because all they took was some interior parts, the grill, the a/c, and the rims. They car itself has some damage to it but nothing significant. So now my question is, will the insurance company pay to fix the car and then force it on my friend. Or would they be willing to just give my friend the money that the car was worth. And since the car was stolen and recovered won't the car be a salvaged vehicle and won't the resale value be crap, therefore, my friend doesn't really want the car back. Is there any thing my friend can do so that the insurance comp. will just hand over the mula???
