I had that brake light failure on my 93 325iS. I tried every possible combination of changing bulbs, new bulbs, switching bulbs, ad infinitum. I finally got the warning to go away, but it seemed like I had already tried the method that ultimately fixed the problem. I know your frustration. My advice is to buy all new bulbs at your local autoparts store and replace them all at the same time (if one of the bulbs is actually bad/burned out, the others cannot be far behind) Might cost you ten dollars, but it might be worth saving yourself the aggravation. Good luck!
