When was the last time that you saw three Israeli soldiers being shot at, and them doing nothing but scream feverishly into their radios? This is usually the case before the press starts reporting, "Israeli soldiers fire on palestinian civillians," because an Israeli soldier will not fire his weapon, even if fired upon, without a direct order giving them permission. In a series of rules that aim to stop confrontation, the IDF is very strict regarding this. I have a friend who spent time in Israeli prison because a member of his team fired his weapon, as a warning shot, when their jeep was being shot at by a band of palestinians. Let's try and put this in perspective? When the U.S. Army was marching in Viet Nam, do you thing they sat there and got shot at until they were ordered to fire? I'm afraid not. In how many of these reported cases has Israel been the first to fire? I'd assert none. And to Southern Lebanon, who invaded who? I don't remember the Israeli militia deciding to invade Lebanon and torture its citizens. On the other hand, the battle cry of many of Israel's surrounding nations has been to "Drive the Israelis into the Sea." This debate will clearly not be settled in a short thread, as it has raged for over 50 years. Therefore, I'm done. I just hope people will try to get an objective view of things, and I hope we all know, you can NEVER see the complete story in a news story. (Most of the time cameras only arrive many minutes after a conflict has begun.)
