Yes... You would definitely lose horsepower, especially when you are standing still and there is no movement of air in the engine. When you are moving at a decent speed, the air moving over and around the headlight will help compensate for the extra heat. You might break even if you're lucky.

I know that by using a heat shield and a cone you will have more power than not using one, because of fan wash and heat, but will I lose HP versus stock by using a cone on it's own? I have heard conflicting stories here. Honestly, I think my car's fast enough, or at least the local cops think so, and I don't feel like buying a shield, or fabricating one. I've heard that the intake adds a nice sound to the engine. I just got one from my friend for free, but it has no shield. Will I LOSE horsepower by switching from the stock Airbox to a shieldless cone? Thanks for any help.
