Your engine compartment reaches temps of well over 180 degrees (can't recall immediate BMW numbers), but doing the math, you can dramatically reduce the temps and gain some "cool" under hood points (methinks at least 20-30 degrees.

There's a performance website that has pics of the filter temp with a heat shield and without. I'm trying to find the URl but the difference is pretty eye opening.

And heck a heat shield won't kill you price wise. Build one from sheet aluminum yourself for about $10 or order a cool carbon fiber one for what $180

>Yes a heatshild will definitely prevent HP loss from the heat. I think someone mentioned for every 10 degrees its 1 or 2 hp(?) So yes it definitely helps, a MUST Have.....If you look at one youll see why. Mine gets so hot you cant even touch it so I know it makes a diff

When you are moving, hot air isnt that big of a deal since it all flows out under the car. A heatshield also blocks the turbulent airflow from the fan under the hood....yes it makes a diff
