Brakes on 99 M3 with 37K Miles (archive)

I was just told yesterday after a routine checkup that my 99 M3 with 37K miles needs a complete brake overhaul. Apparently the pads, rotors and sensors are tired and ready for replacement.

1) I'm being quoted close to $1000 at a BMW dealership. Is the standard?

2) Are there places that it can be done cheaper?

3) I've been told that the rotors can't be turned/shaved/straightened. Are they trying to sell me more stuff or do you generally replace the entire brake system at one time?

Thanks for the help.

Also, I'm putting Michelin Pilot Sports on the car... any feedback on this choice?

Blue Skies,
