Assuming you guys have the non-vader type seats, The tension rod, that keeps the seat folded forward when you pull up on the latch, may have slipped off the clip or hook under the seat. If you look or feel under the rear of the seats and find this loose rod, it is simply a matter of pushing it hard back onto that clip or hook.


I've also got a 96 and when I bought the car used, it was a "dead" seat, unlike the driver side which happily folds forward.
