I've changed the radiator (very recently), water pump and termostate (within last year). Since I've changed the radiator the temp gauge often would go to the line between middle and end, stay there for about a minute or two and then come back to the middle. Since the car never heated up, or never went all the way to the red I didn't pay much attention to it. Then last night I was stuck in traffic for about 20 minutes, the car started heating up, this time going to the redline. I pulled over, looked under the leaks, i touched the radiator and it was boiling inside, opened the radiator cap, let it sit for a little bit while it was boiling, the temp went out of red to between middle and red again, as I started driving it went to the middle. I kept driving for about 15 mintues until I was near home. Then it did it again.....

This morning when I wanted to tow the car to the shop I wanted to test to see if it heats up, and guess what, after adding a little coolent it didn't heat up anymore....

What can cause this? I was thinking of water pump, but if it was the water pump then it should still have the problem this morning right?

Any help would be appreicated.
