Odd stereo Problem...(plz read) (archive)

My fm reception has not been perfect.(Worst reception than a stock headunit) I bought the car with a Kenwood Excelon headunit. Now, here's the situation... When I switch to AM, I barely get any reception. Mostly static and when I gas; I hear a ticking from the speakers. The harder I accelerate, the faster the ticking. When I floor it, the ticking sounds become whiny-like. How can I fix this?

ps. When listening to the fm radio, I hear static interference when I turn on the rear defroster.
