As far as the short shifter, A LOT of them come REALLY close to the drive shaft.
I waS CHATTING with Ron Stygar over email about this. When I put my modified MRoadster SS in my M3, it came REALLY close to the drive shaft (1/4" to 1/8"). Ron mentioned that that closeness is common with short shifters with some people actually having it rub the drive shaft.
In your car, the manufacturing tolerance looks like it's more/less than mine.
Here's a solution. Order the ERK from UUC. It's a $100 cup that raises the height of the shift by about an inch. Which will in turn lift the shifter up and away. It also helps A LOT with getting rid of that "notchy" feel in the shifter.
Aside from dropping your tranny lower or going back to the stock shifter, another "short shifter" probably won't work without the ERK.
>I ordered an AA short shifter and when I installed it....it was horrible! The short shifter cause the linkage to lower and rub part of my drive tran (gizibo?)causing severe noise/vibration while driving. I called them and told them what happened...and they said send it back! So I just got it back and they said they had repositioned it and if it still was rubbing...my car was messed up?? Its worse than it was before I sent it back!! So now Im out the $ and stuck with a useless SS!! Man Im pissed!
