A 27/22 would firm up the body roll tendency but would "increase the understeer" even more than what you have now on the stock '96 thru '99 M3! The reason for this is 27mm would increase the front's stiffness by 90% but the 22mm would increase the rear's stiffness by "only" 46%...giving you even "more" understeer than you had before!
A 26/24 would not only firm up the body roll tendency (front and rear) but also get rid of the understeer...which is what you want.
26/24 is ideal to accomplish both...less roll and get rid of the understeer.
Here's the math formula for the difference in stiffness:
(d2^4) / (d1^4 + d2^4) X 100 = % Difference in Torsion Stiffness
d1 = original diameter
d2 = new diameter
Stock ('96 thru '99 M3):
Front (27mm) = 90% increase
Rear (22mm) = 46% increase
Note: Since the front's 90% is larger than the rear's 46%, you will have even more understeer!)
Front (26mm) = 63% increase
Rear (24mm) = 107% increase
Note: Since the front's 63% is less than the rear's 107%, you will have less understeer or maybe a slight oversteer.)
The 26mm front and 24 mm rear is the set to install for reduced body roll "and" to reduce or eliminate the understeer in a '96 thru '99 M3.
