FYI if you don't like the idea of grease on leather try baby powder, it works just need to do it a little more often than lube!!!!
I have a 99 M3 also and I had the same problem! Believe it or not, it may by coming from the rear right passenger side headrest. I had a friend sit in the rear to help me find the squeak. To fix the problem, I sprayed lubricant (White Lithium Grease or Silicone) into the headrest posts on top and on the bottom. Just make sure you get the lube inside. I haven't heard the squeak since. Good luck.

Just picked up a 99 M3 last weekend and love it.

So far, its a flawless car, visually and mechanically, but there's one thing that's driving me nuts:

While driving, I occasionally hear a very short, high pitched chirp or squeeling sound that seems to be coming from the rear right side of the car. It sounds a lot like the squeel you hear from the factory issue brake pads, but it never happens while I'm on the brakes. It seems to happen intermittantly at any speed, in any gear. At first, I thought it was one of the rear brakes, but now I'm not so sure. I've even tried coasting on a smooth, level road and pulled up the E-brake slightly to listen for the chirp. Didn't happen.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be??
