It shouldn't be a problem to add an amp and speakers. You can use a LOC (line output converter) or a line driver which would boost the head unit signal to the amp and provide a cleaner signal. Most quality amps will accept a high level input directly from the head unit. I did the same thing you're planning on doing.

I believe that there is an amp in the trunk that comes with the 95 M3. Can the amp's electrical harness be modified to work with an aftermarket amp? I was thinking about upgrading the speakers and using a more powerfull amp. I would like to keep the stock head unit and cd changer. Thanks in advance.
