First, what are the problem areas as far as high mileage and long term maintenance are concerned? Are there any infamous problems like electrical gremlins or such that will fail after a few years? I really don't know very much about the marque,other than some people say they're reliable, and others say they nickel and dime you to death after they're a few years old.
Second, what's a reasonable price for one of these cars? I'm definitely not interested in a slushbox, and, IIRC, the auto M3's weren't introduced until a couple of years into the model run. I have seen one example in the Auto Trader that the owner wants $22K for. It's a theft recovery, and claims there is no damage to the structure of the car. That's the lowest price I've seen so far. Worth it, or should I run screaming into the woods at the words "Salvage title"?
Third, can someone recommend a non biased BMW specialist mechanic in the San Diego area? It's so I can have a prospective car inspected for any impending mechanical failures.
If all these questions have been covered in a FAQ, could someone please point me to it?
