I don't have the UUC sway bars on my M3 but the aftermarket sway bars that I've installed on other cars using polypropylene bushings were very hard to deal with and hard as in harder material compared to the OEM rubber bushings. The slot in the bushings are always very difficult to open up because of the harder material.

I've also noticed that the ones I have used the hole diameter seemed to be smaller than it should be but they always worked correctly for me. You definetly don't want a bushing hole diameter that's too large! The slot never did come close to closing because if it did the hole diameter would be too small for the bar. Also, since the bushings are cut to create the slot this removes a small amount of material too.

I too have had problems getting the bushing's mounting strap close enough to its normal position to start the bolts. I remember one time we had to use a transmission jack stand under the strap to apply enough force on the strap while lowering the car a little so the car's weight would apply enough force to close the strap up! We could have worked all day trying to get it to work otherwise!
BTW, that particular car was a '93 Supra TT using TRD's (Toyota Racing Development) swaybars and poly bushings.

Of course, I don't know exactly what you're looking at problem-wise with the swaybars but I thought I'd share my experience with other cars I've installed various swaybars on.

I just got back from the "shop" with bad news. I thought I would have some new sways on right now, but instead, it appears I have either the wrong bushings, or the wrong bars. I'm leaning towards the wrong bushings. We put the bushings on the front sway bar, and they would barely go on. The inner hole of the bushing is too small and they barely fit around the bar. The ends don't meet. On top of that, the factory sway bar brackets will not fit around the outside of the bushings. We didn't see any way that these would fit. The only way I could have made this work tonight is if I would have used the factory bushings, which I did NOT want to do. So a few hours later and a few dollars shorter away, here I sit, disgruntled and scratching my head wondering what happened. I guess I'll call UUC tomorrow and I hope they have a clue as to what is going on. Hopefully just a bushing issue.
