woah, can you tell us a bit about your 00 E55 AMG? We're thinking of adding a sport sedan to our household and we can't seem to find any M5's around here...

For that type of vehicle, it really is awesome. It is quicker than a stock 98 M3 without a doubt. The thing really pulls hard. It handles really well and braking is impressive for a 4000+ lb vehicle.

HOWEVER, it seems as if you are looking for a daily driver and the fact you are considering an M3 means you dont really necessitate a pickup for any utility activities. My family was in need of a truck and at the time I considered selling my 99 M3 to get the Lightning. Well I wound up keeping the M3 and my dad drives the Lightning everyday now. We had a Suburban and a Cobra(both of which were my fathers) and he wanted to cut down on vehicles. In his case, this was the perfect compromise as the Lightning was the best of both worlds. Now he can drive the thing everyday and still tow his boat, etc etc.
After driving the Lightning, I am glad I didnt sell the M3. The first time I raced a Lightning, it pulled on me a little but I caught it at top end since my car is much more aerodynamic. For everyday driving, id say go for the M3. Its small quick and nimble yet VERY comfortable. No matter what the Lightning is still a truck and will always have the "bouncy" feel. Not to mention there is no back seat, its a slush box(automatics arent fun), and it damn well drinks gas like its going out of style...As for maintenence the later M3's are pretty much bug free and with proper care, it will last just as long as anything. A Ford will always be a Ford- you can run it to the ground until it wont run anymore without any problems.

Go for the M3 you wont be disappointed. Its more fun, built better(not knocking Fords but BMW's fit and finish is superior without a doubt)

Also, not quite as important but the M3 IS a status symbol when it comes to girls. Theyd much rather hear you drive a beemer than have you explain "Well the Lightning isnt just a pickup its an SVT, which means its all hooked up from the factory blah blah blah" At that point youve already been shot down =)

Any other questions, email me
