A few things not mentioned... the Ford is going to drop in value like a brick. Look at the lease terms on it... Ford estimates the value after 3 years at $11,000!
Glad I kept my M... if you are bent on the Lightning, think about this: You can buy a fully decked F150 extended cab for 26k, and add a NICE blower and exhaust for less than 4k... still cheaper than a Lightning, you get a nicer truck, and just as fast. I did a lot of work on this, if you have questions, let me know...
I would say the lightning is the more primitive of the two. It's threats are all displayed with it's side pipes and fat tires.
The M3 is a bit quieter in demeanor. It will not be as much a stop light intimidator. However your average stoplight challenger will be beaten by a well-driven M3 (0-60 in five seconds flat is not uncommon for a bolt-on modified M3).
Even more, the car has great handling character. it is very predictable and inspires confidence to utilize it's razor sharp reflexes.
I saw some lightnings at the e-town track. They are definitely fast, and were probably my favorite vehicle there that night. They are very unique, pretty big on "gawk factor" among the automotive crowd.
the stock lightnings were not doing too well in terms of ET's. They were turning mid to high fourteens. One was fourteen flat. There was ONE however that was absolutely hooked up! it had a performance pulley replacement for the supercharger, a chip reprogram, and an open k&n intake. This thing was doing 13.1 at 110 mph!!!
My car was doing 13.8...so yes it would've kicked my A$$!
....now you leave the drag strip, and you realize that the lightning is not nearly as remarkable in any other handling category.
If you take into account the braking, handling, and useful acceleration of the M3 you will see that the M3 is a faster car on the whole.
The M3 is like a jet fighter of a car. Think of it this way: If you were in a car chase, which car would you rather be in, the lightning or the M3?
from one edge of your town to the other, which would win?
if your goal is to stomp on the accelerator for 10 seconds and have people at stoplights saying "damn,...and that's a friggin' truck!" after you show them your tail lights, then get the truck.
If you want to go out and explore the limits of adhesion of your car in every possibly vectored direction...then my son,....you are ready for the M3.
