Your comparing to totaly different engines.

The 3.0 286hp engine you mention above was in the Euro M3. The 3.0 US M3 was also 240hp, same as the 3.2 US M3.

When the Euro changed to the 3.2 it was bumped up to 320hp.

The difference between the two engines you mention are vast.
