I've searched the archives, and haven't found an answer on a crucial point, which filter is safer, and how much filtering capacity am I giving up over stock paper?

I've seen surveys, clips from emails supposedly from a K&N tech, postings from Jim C (he got his panties in a bunch), but what's the deal? I've read the archived thread about the construction vehicles using KNs and the less than stellar filtering properties, and I emailed K&N directly to try to get some data (no response yet).

I'd like more ponies, but I think that I'm better off leaving it stock rather than sandblasting my top end with dust through my intake. Oh yeah, why aren't ITG more common?

Any thoughts?
