My first auto-x was in my Miata a few years back at 3Com. I was supercharged and suspension out and I got a best of 52 secs. Yeah, I drove like a Chinese grandma. (giggling)

Anyway, this one guy shows up in a bone stock Miata he had bought a few days ago, yeah fresh with dealer plates and cheap tires.

He burned up a 46 sec run......the 2nd best time of the day behind a Corvette ZR-1.

Turns out, he was Gary Sheehan. Not that he's a big name YET, but we chatted and he got picked up by Skip Barber while attending one of their schools.

Now he's off racing F-2 (One class below Formula 1?).


Not that tire pressure is worth any advantages or disadvatages but....

A great driver can make do with any car from what I've seen.

Of course, I'm sure Gary's Miata had been modified quite a bit since then...but then again, I think he upgraded to an RX-7 too.
