I think one of the benefits from buying from an individual is that you will probably get "free" add ons and the car will probably be cheaper than a dealer to begin with. Dealer rarely take cars that has been modified. They prefer bone stock cars. Coming from an individual you can expect better wheels, intakes, exhaust and maybe a fancier interior or even exterior. However, most modified cars may have been abused or raced. Drive several and get the feel of what a good conditioned car should feel like. I almost traded my '97 M3 for a '96 ALL DINANed out but when I got in I felt the car has been abused. Everything was loose and rattling. It was only a year older than mines but it felt more like 5 years older than mines.
