In Georgia, if you buy from an individual you pay NO sales tax!!! Which in Fulton County is 7%. That's $2,100 on a $30g car. I bought my 97 4dr Boston Green from an individual who bought his Certified Pre Owned a Year earlier. I paid approx $6g less that the dealer and NO Sales tax to boot! Find out what your State laws say.

I just recently had to figure this out myself. Here's the dilemma. You will have to register the car yourself and pay the same taxes you would have paid a dealer. Personally, I opted for a certified pre-owned which was only marginally more expensive, came with a BMW $0 deductible extended warranty, and the dealer took care of all the paper work involved. Good luck.

What are the costs involved with buying a used car from an individual? How is this different from buying from a dealership? Tax implications?? Need help quick...I'm no accountant.
