New car dealers keep the cream of the crop in trade-ins they receive and toss the rest the auctions.

When buying from a private seller you have to do all the homework yourself.

The two cars I picked up from dealers were in great condition with a minimum of problems.

The one car I purchased privately from a stranger I got screwed on.

I only buy cars from dealers. I pay the premium for the short warranty (required in my state on used car sales through dealers). Dealers have a reputation to protect, good dealers that is.

What are the costs involved with buying a used car from an individual? How is this different from buying from a dealership? Tax implications?? Need help quick...I'm no accountant.
