DEFINITELY buy from an individual over a dealer, but my advice would be to find an auto broker. I have a friend in Montgomery, Alabama, who will get you the car of your dreams for a fee of $300. He goes to the auctions where the dealers buy their used cars, and you get the car for wholesale. I bought my M3 from him, my brother bought his M3 from the same guy, my wife bought an I30 from him, and everyone else I know who's bought a car from the guy (10-15 people) are all very happy about it.

You do have to pay taxes, since it is a business, so if you see one from an individual that you like, that's a great deal, too. It's just that the auctions are a great way to find the car you want when you want it.

E-mail me and I'll give you his name and address.

What are the costs involved with buying a used car from an individual? How is this different from buying from a dealership? Tax implications?? Need help quick...I'm no accountant.
