Drive the car a few miles to warm it up and adjust it this way:

Find a very, very slight hill where the car wants to roll backward on its own (in neutral). Adjust the clutch stop so when you depress the clutch when in 1st gear that the car will roll backward indicating the clutch is completely removed from the flywheel. As long as when you depress the clutch and there is no friction from the clutch plate and the flywheel it's as good as being a foot away. Give yourself a fraction of an inch margin of play just to be sure and you're good to go. Adjusting the clutch stop this way is bulletproof!

I recently purchased a clutch stop for my M, but I have a question, how far out can I put it and still shift saftley? I know that if the gears grind that is too far(obviously), but can I put it in a position such that it the clutch will still barely be grabbing the flywheel thus muaking shifting difficult and causing more wear???

Basically, is it an all or nothing thing (grind/no grind) or is there a middle ground to be careful of too???
