I just looked at IL RUT-50 form and it says sales tax on $25k to $29.9k is $1250, and $30k+ is $1500. Not sure about registration, but probably less than $200 total.

One thing to look at is it's more than likely against California state law to operate a vehicle for more than x days in CA if you own it without changing the registration.

Hi there ..

I have the oppurtunity to buy my car from the Chicago area, but live in California. My brother is willing to purchase and register my car there and ship it to me here in Cali .. I know I can save a lot on the purchase price but was curious what the tax, and registration fee's are in that state.

this will also allow me to avoid California's out of state emissions issues .. but i am not sure I want a land of lincoln license plate on the back of my car everywhere i go.. anyways just considering this to save a few g's ..
