i heard somewhere.. maybe it was the E46 board... about buying a car out of state.. You need to show proof that you are bringing it to Cali.. and the state you purchase the vehicle in you do not have to pay sales tax, reg, etc... I'm not sure if this is just for new cars.

in cali its 15 days... but i drove my IL car here for 2 years.. shhhhh don't tell anyone... :)


Hi there ..

I have the oppurtunity to buy my car from the Chicago area, but live in California. My brother is willing to purchase and register my car there and ship it to me here in Cali .. I know I can save a lot on the purchase price but was curious what the tax, and registration fee's are in that state.

this will also allow me to avoid California's out of state emissions issues .. but i am not sure I want a land of lincoln license plate on the back of my car everywhere i go.. anyways just considering this to save a few g's ..
