Because of this little fact I have been considering getting a more toned down vehicle like a 2001 Acura CL Type S. Its definitly not a sports car like the M3, but i only have 26k to work with and i question how good an m3 i can get for that.
In fact ..My brother has been trying to convince me that for 25k I can get a whole lot more car in the CL Type S (Less mileage, more comfort, more gadgets.. etc), and that the M3 requires a 2 car lifestyle(ie.. need a Commuter car, and use the m3 as the weekend car) .. and that it doesn't make sense to use for your everday life .. anyone care to comment on this viewpoint
Thanks ..
Lane
They are two totally different cars. Living in New York, the M3 spends most of the winter months in the garage. It sucks in the snow, big time and I wouldn't want to drive it on snowy/salty roads anyway.
The CL Type-S is a front driver with VSA (trac control plus stability assist) and is excellent in the snow. Plus is comfortable, relatively fast, and has every damn option known to man.
But I highly doubt you'll be able to get your hands on a CL Type-S for $25K. The only option available on the car is a $2K DVD based Navigation system. Order the Navi (I did) and your car will sticker at $32785. Subtract $2000 if you don't want the Navi, and you're still nearly $31000 sticker.
Or are you looking for a used Type-S? Might be tough to find, since these cars only came out earlier this year.
When I park my M3 at a mall, I must admit that I'm a little worried that I'll come back and have no side mirrors, M3 moldings, M3 badge on the back etc..... So far, I've been lucky, I guess.
But I don't worry at all when I park the Type-S at the mall. Not nearly as much to worry about.
Here's what I would do: If I could only afford one car, I'd get the Acura. Makes more sense for me, especially where I live.
But if you can swing it, why not get the M3 and buy a beater for the malls/winters etc..?
