I have seen this board and the e46 m3 board debate over the past couple of years whether or not the e46 m3 will ever receive the e39 m5 motor, and at least for competition it will. Follow the link and see the photos and article from the PTG tour this weekend in Winchester, Virginia. When asked if the motor will make it into production in the m3, Tom Milner simply stated, BMW does not allow something like this to happen unless somewhere down the line it will make it into production. However, he said IF this were to become available, that it would be such a limited quantity that the price would be extremely prohibtive for your average buyer to pick one up. As far as a set date for production, he said around "2005 or 2006". I hope this helps fellas, I know you were wondering about this. We also have about 80 percent of the speech Milner gave that I am hoping to transcribe, but it will take a couple of days to get it all done if we decide to do it.
