Do i replace the whole shocks or just where the
shocks mount to or both?

Any opinions on the extended warranty stuff.

If you hear clunking noise in the rear, it is probably rear shock mounts. They go bad somewhere around 25k to 50k miles, but easily replaced with aftermarket GroundControl ones or JTDesign ones. Thats all I can think of with a 98 M3.
