You cannot expect to sell a car independently for the same price as a dealer. However small, dealers do provide services which add value to the car. Inspections, detailing, valid title, limited warranty, etc... And most important, however misguided, piece of mind. Buyers feel that a buying a car from a dealer is less risky. Oh, and lets not forget convienence. Going to the stealer is just plain easier than searching the "for sale" ads.

Also, Edmunds and KBB quote the average "List" price. Cars rarely sell for full "List". If you went into a dealer and paid what Edmunds or KBB quoted as average retail, I hope the dealer used some KY before putting the screw to ya...

Don't believe everything you read...

When the car is worth 35K, org members say 31K!
When the car is worth 29K, org members say 25K!

The prices quoted on this board are thousands less than what both Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book say they should be. Try it. Is there something bimmer.org members know that they dont? Arent we underselling our cars and hurting the future resale value?

It is obviously a buyers market now, but we are seeing like 4-5K less than these sources! Whats going on?????
