I am in the US and am the market for a late model (1999?) M3 coupe or sedan as a fun/road-trip/weekend car. Are there enthusiast web sites with pre-owned E46 M3 shopping advice, things to look out for etc? I am undecided yet on the body style, although a price premium for one style over the other may lead me to the lower priced option. I do have a preference for sedans, as my ownership history will reveal.
Allow me to describe two specific vehicles in my ownership history that will best introduce myself:

(Past) 1992 BMW 325i sedan, 5-speed, leather, sunroof, ABS, no ASC-T, no limited slip diffential, no modifications, leased for two years

(Present) 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP sedan (supercharged 3.8L V6), 4-speed automatic, leather, sunroof, 4-channel ABS, traction control (defeatable); modifications: cold-air intake with K&N 9-inch cone air filter (stock headers and exhaust system), smaller supercharger pulley, stiffer rear sway-bar (reduces understeer), polyurethane sway bar bushings front and rear, modified powertrain computer with re-optimized fuel map, speed-governor removed, firmer and quicker transmission shifts, true red-line shifts, 4-2 and 3-1 skip shifts.

Springs, struts, exhaust system have been kept stock since this car is a family hauler, daily driver (40-mile one-way commutes), and my winter vehicle. Thus, exhaust tone and ride comfort are still factors to consider.

Just like my GTP, my M3 would see some light-duty SCCA solo autocross street classes (non race-prepped).

I would also like to start researching possible modifications for my soon to be here M3 and meet other BMW enthusiasts in the St Louis to Chicago area. I have put in a request to attend the 2001 Gateway Tech.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
