Well, it doesnt sound like too big of a deal. First of all, you dont want to use compound nor sandpaper.
Go to a specialty paint store and have them give you some touchup which matches the exact color of your car. The number/paint code should be on your drivers side shock tower underneath the name of the paint. This is what the paint stores use to make the paint.
in either case, depending on how deep the scratch is, apply it to the scratch. Then take a rag and put a little bit of POLISH on the tip of it and rub it lightly over the touch-up paint, but wait at least five minutes before you begin to polish. In either case, just do this a few times until you fill the scratch completely and polish off all the excess around the scratch. If you do this right, you wont be able to notice the scratch unless you specifically look for it.
