Ive been looking for a 95 M3 for about 6 months now and I have a totally different opintion. I do agree with most people regarding KBB, it is way too high. KBB is used by the $tealers and used car lots. Edmunds is a little more real however I find that most people selling their cars want a lot more than the edmunds "private party" value. You mentioned a 4-5k difference in price, I WISH!!!
Right now for a 95 M3 with less than 30k miles and super clean I've yet to find one for less than $25k. That is 1K over edmunds pricing but still less than KBB.
So to sum it up, KBB is great for getting a car loan, getting screwed by a Dealer.
Edmunds or even NADA are more real pricing for those who are looking to get a fair deal.
my $.02
