As much as dealers rely on "Carfax" reports, i have noticed that there has been a lot of problems with the accuracy of carfax reports. Personally, i like them, but dont believe everything unless you do some other research.

Being in the car business, I have ran maybe hundreds of carfax reports of cars that I have bought and of cars which i have considered buying. No auction accepts carfax reports as a motive for Arbitration (taking the car back). The thing is, that a lot of times they are inaccurate because of the emmission or inspection stations taking the miles.... You've seen some of the guys that work in there- dont make me go into detail... basically, this is where you will encounter a lot of errors which are then recorded in carfax...
If the car is nice, do another title check on the car and have a mechanic look over it. Theres no point in passing up a good car because of some inspection workers incompetence.
