Ran carfax and following info came up. Note the two mileage figures.

===================================================
05/22/1998 US Customs Exported from: Germany
Imported to: Newark, NJ

06/05/1998 Registered as private vehicle
Motor Vehicle Dept.

09/01/1998 6 Title issued Motor Vehicle Dept.

04/24/1999 73,000 Passed emissions inspection

04/24/1999 Passed emissions inspection
=======================================================

The strange thing is the independent dealer says the mileage is 31,000 but the carfax says 73,000. That also means most of this mileage was put on in a little under 8-mo!!!! Even if there is a mistake, if I buy the car then the next carfax would report an odometer rollback!

What's up? Any ideas?

TIA
Norm

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to ask the dealer to explain as best they can and do some homework to verify it. Based on today's mileage from dealer (31,000), my guess is that it should have been 7,300 and not 73,000. That works out to about 1000 mi/mo. Using that figure, the car is 31 mo old now which equates to 31,000 mi. Makes sense to me. If true, then it remains to be seen if they can straighten out the database. Unbelievable!!!

Rgds,
Norm
