I decided to get mine replaced at the dealer because (1) the dealer would use OEM glass and (2) would follow what were reported to be proper procedures requiring the adhesive to cure for several hours. The alternative, I was told, was to risk wind noise and leaking if the job were rushed (and safety risks if the windshield were not properly secured to the car). It cost me about $750 instead of the $250 or so that Safelight would charge. Unfortunately, while the installation appears top notch and I have experienced no leaking, I am getting significant wind noise. The dealer has offered to remedy the problem without any resistance. Take what you will from this experience. If you decide to go with an independent shop, do inquire whether the shop will use the proper window framing kit (which I believe is in two parts).

I have a '97 E36 M3, when i got in my car this mornning, i discovered a 7-8inch long crack on the wind shield, infront of driver seat.
Anyone knows how much it costs to have the glass replaced with a new one? i'm in the DC\VA area, anyone knows local places? thanks again.
