Yes, I've seen it a few times in my 99. Just stick the key back in the ignition, turn it and take it back out. The ignition key assembly probably just needs to be lubricated.

My '98 M3 makes that "ding, ding, ding" warning bell sound whenever I open the driver's door, as if the key was in the ignition, but it's definitely not. This gremlin has come and gone over the years, and I can't figure out what's causing it. Anyone seen this, or have any ideas?
