I had the same thing happen in my '97. I tried banging on the ignition switch with my hand, and heard a click. The dinging stopped. Shoot a litle lube in there and it should take care of the sticking switch.

My '98 M3 makes that "ding, ding, ding" warning bell sound whenever I open the driver's door, as if the key was in the ignition, but it's definitely not. This gremlin has come and gone over the years, and I can't figure out what's causing it. Anyone seen this, or have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
