Considering purchasing a 99 M3 with 40K miles. Fairly clean, has been tracked a few times.

If I repeatedly press down on the right rear side of the car, a soft clunk is heard. If I do the same thing on the left rear, I don't hear anything. Could this be a rear shock tower/mount gone bad? I did take it for a test drive and drove over a speed bump not too slowly, but didn't hear any clunking. Though, there were no people in the back seat at the time.

Is there a way for me to check if the shock mount is bad? My other alternative is to take it to a BMW dealership and have them take a look at it.
